Light Up Your Room's Life

With the flick of a switch, the proper lighting can help set the mood in a room and illuminate dark areas. Lighting can be dimmed for that added ambiance and intimacy during a romantic dinner, while entertaining, or while watching a movie.

There are two types of lighting: task lighting and ambient lighting. Task lighting is necessary while reading or doing detailed work and is achieved with directed and higher intensity light, such as a downward reading lamp. Ambient lighting is softer and can be in the form of sconces, pendant lights, tapered candles, and tea candles. To help create ambient lighting, consider having a dimmer switch installed so that you can control the amount of light and set the mood you are trying to achieve.

Lighting general areas can be addressed through the use of recessed lights, track lighting, floor lamps, table lamps, and chandeliers. Floor lamps and table lamps add beauty to the home, are stylish, and serve the purpose of providing additional lighting where needed. Floor lamps and table lamps come in a variety of different styles from Traditional to Contemporary to Transitional. Also, chandeliers add a touch of elegance to a dining room and kitchen nook area.

Research the different types of lighting available before redecorating. You can consult with a lighting specialist or scour the internet for ideas and information. Also, find out what it will cost for an electrician to install these lights. This way, you will have an idea on whether or not it meets your budget.
